GOREE ISLAND: 300 years of Slave Trading in West Africa
Board a ferry for a poignant journey to the historic Gorée Island. This 20-minute ride transports you back over 200 years to a time when Gorée served as a pivotal depot for millions of Africans forced into bondage and shipped to the Americas. At the slave house, the curator will share the harrowing history of the black slave trade in West Africa, spanning three to four centuries. After a moment of reflection and libation in honor of our ancestors who suffered during this dark passage, we’ll explore the island, including a visit to the Women's Museum. The tour features a compelling lecture from the curator on the theme of "300 Years of Slave Trading in West Africa," deepening your understanding of this critical part of history.
Lac Rose (Pink Lake Retba)
After breakfast, kick off your day with a visit to the stunning Lac Rose (Pink Lake Retba), renowned for its breathtaking pink hues. Next, we’ll make a stop in the Fulani Villages of Cayar, where you’ll have the chance to engage with local community members. Witness the vibrant arrival of big game fishing and observe how the fishermen carry out their daily tasks along the beach. Please note that due to climate change, the lake's pink color is no longer as vivid as it once was.
