LIVING HERITAGE CEREMONY (TORGORME VILLAGE)

After breakfast, depart Accra for a scenic journey to a charming riverside village along the lower reaches of the majestic Volta River. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed with a courtesy visit to the village chief and elders, complete with vibrant traditional drumming and dancing performed by the local community.

The experience continues with a meaningful naming ceremony, where each participant is bestowed a Ghanaian name and presented with a small gift—an unforgettable symbol of cultural connection, belonging, and recognition as a member of the local community.

Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the renowned Cedi Beads experience. Beads hold deep cultural significance in Ghana, particularly among the Krobo people, where they represent family status, special milestones, and important rites of passage such as the Dipo ceremony. Guests will tour the bead factory, learn about the traditional bead-making process, and participate hands-on in crafting beads using time-honored techniques. You’ll also have time to explore the market and purchase beautifully handmade beads as keepsakes.

ACCRA CITY TOUR - TRADITIONAL AFRICAN MARKET

Set out for a full-day exploration of Accra, a dynamic city where modern life and deep-rooted history intersect. Begin at the W.E.B. Du Bois Center, gaining insight into the life and legacy of the influential scholar and Pan-Africanist who spent his final years in Ghana. Continue to the Artiste Alliance Gallery, a striking three-story space showcasing paintings, sculptures, textiles, and beadwork from both emerging and established Ghanaian artists.  Next, visit Independence Square, home to the iconic Black Star Gate and a powerful symbol of Ghana’s freedom and sovereignty. After lunch on your own, explore the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, honoring Ghana’s first president and his vision for independence and African unity. Conclude the day at the Arts Center, an open-air market where you can shop for Kente cloth, carvings, jewelry, and handcrafted souvenirs while experiencing Ghana’s vibrant craftsmanship.

ELMINA CASTLE

You will embark on a tour to Elmina Castle (St. George’s Castle), a fortress built by the Portuguese in 1482, making it the oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa. The castle’s whitewashed walls stand in stark contrast to its grim history as a major hub of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Walk through the dark and suffocating dungeons, where thousands of enslaved Africans were held in captivity before being forced onto ships bound for the Americas. Stand in the Door of No Return, a symbolic gateway that represents the final passage of those taken from their homeland. The experience is powerful and thought-provoking, offering a moment of reflection on history and resilience.
